Below and Beyond presents a series of paintings and handmade seaweed paper sculptures by Hobart artist Catherine Stringer. The artworks explore landscapes as places of threshold and transition.
All of the artworks in the exhibition depict water in some way, continuing a longstanding theme in Stringer's practice.
Many of the works depict the surfaces of sea, rivers, creeks and waterholes, where clear water allows partial views of what lies beneath the surface, while also reflecting the surrounding rocks, cliffs, trees and sky. Some of these waters also contain a swimmer whose rippling image merges with water's reflections.
In other works the eye is drawn to the distance through kelp beds, open water or cave entrances, towards spaces that remain beyond our view.
Water reflects and reveals, distorts and conceals, adapts and flows.
Water leads us beyond the immediately visible.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Latvian Textile Art Association invites visitors to its summer exhibition at Cesvaine Palace.
This year’s exhibition offers an open and diverse insight into contemporary Latvian textile art. Free from a single overarching theme, it allows each artist to speak about what matters most to them.
The concept also resonates with the approaching centenary of Rudolf Heimrāts, the founder of Latvia’s textile art tradition, reflecting on the development of the field while considering how textile art continues to evolve today.
The works explore memories, environments, people, everyday life, and belonging. Alongside personal narratives, broader social and cultural moods also emerge. From more than 400 submitted works, 50 have been selected for the exhibition, showcasing a wide range of techniques, artistic approaches, and generational perspectives.
The exhibition offers an opportunity to experience Latvian textile art as it exists today-diverse, vibrant, and constantly evolving.

"What Remains? On the Materiality of Meaning" is an exhibition of objects made from paper produced from plant fibers, presented at the Polish Institute in Sofia.
The exhibition reflects on inscription as a process of transformation—between presence and the disappearance of meaning. Its starting point is a series of acts of transformation, removal, and revelation, positioning image and inscription as a dynamic field of continuous change.
Paper, with its organic structure and susceptibility to transformation, becomes not only a medium but also an active participant in the process of inscription. The works explore the material traces of emotions, experiences, labor, and memory. Here, inscription appears both as a form of preservation and as a process of disappearance and disintegration.
The presented works examine the tension between matter and meaning. Cracks, abrasions, corrosion, sediment, and dust are not treated as defects but as records of time and carriers of memory.
Maria Matyja-Rozpara is the recipient of the AMATERAS Grand Prix 2025 and a guest artist in the international programme of SOFIA PAPER ART FEST 2026.
The exhibition is held under the patronage of the Polish Institute in Sofia and is co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.

'Tidal' brings together a new body of work by Melbourne-based artist Bridget Hillebrand. Developed through recent residencies on a floating studio at Lake Tyers in East Gippsland and along the Shoalhaven River at Bundanon, NSW, the works arise from sustained proximity to tidal environments. Their continual give and take is felt through shifts in visibility, unstable ground, and traces of contact, pressure and return.
Through printmaking, ink and folded paper, Hillebrand works with repetition as a way of registering change. Acts of marking, layering and folding echo the cyclical motion of currents, sediment and tidal flow, with the surface holding the evidence of movement over time. Rather than picturing water as a fixed subject, Tidal attends to the conditions that move through it. The exhibition considers making as a practice of attunement, shaped by pull, pressure, return and the unseen forces that determine what comes to the surface.

After an initial creative residency at the Cité Internationale Universitaire in 2006, Julie Picard returns twenty years later, this time for an art exhibition as part of the centennial celebration of the Maison des étudiants canadiens.
Working exclusively with paper, the works on display are created from materials collected in Quebec and France.
Julie Picard is a visual artist based in Quebec City, Canada. Active since the 2000s, she has received several awards and grants, and her work has been featured in more than 40 exhibitions in Canada and internationally. Her works are part of private, institutional, and museum collections.

About the Exhibition:
“KoExistenz” means living together, interacting, maintaining a reciprocal relationship with one another, and finding synergy with the other’s perspective, rather than judging or condemning.
Driven by a childlike fear, we humans often tend to fight against whatever seems threatening. The “enemy”—which can be any number of things—usually has only a limited “shelf life”: forest die-off, the ozone hole, nuclear power, climate change, diseases, those who think differently.
But the fight against one thing or another distracts us from our actual tasks and thus prevents us from evolving as a human community.
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. And the interplay of elements is the foundation upon which new properties and structures of a system can emerge. There is no light without darkness, no day without night. Our lives unfold in the tension between opposites that are mutually dependent and complementary, not mutually exclusive.
Nothing that exists is without meaning, and every crisis is a challenge.

Pilgrimage in the City, a contemporary art route past historic churches in Groningen. As a modern-day pilgrim, you’ll embark on a journey through ancient places of silence, beauty, and imagination. The Pilgrimage in the City art route takes you past three remarkable churches: the Akerk, the Nieuwe Kerk, and the Pelstergasthuiskerk.
At these locations, 13 artists—affiliated with and invited by the artists’ collective 6kmperuur10mdiep—will present works created specifically for “Pilgrimage in the City.” The route is more than just a walk. At the various locations, you can engage in conversation with the artists and discover new perspectives. Inside the churches, you’ll find artworks created specifically for these spaces and artists working on-site.
Josefien Alkema created drawings as a landscape through which the pilgrim passes. Not in search of a sacred, meaningful place, but right in the midst of it. The inspiration for this installation comes from the medieval mystic, scientist, and composer Hildegard von Bingen and her concept of Viriditas: “greenness,” which represents the life force in nature, the breath of God.
In the mystical tradition, there is a unity between nature, people, and God—the divine. This realization gives nature its ultimate meaning; it is life itself, of which every human being is a part. An awareness of nature turns every walk into a pilgrimage.

Kristina Zimbakova creates symbolic and figurative mixed-media paintings, mostly on her handmade paper from fungi. Her art practice is interdisciplinary: fungi and lichens as media and poetry references are distinctive features of her work. She ‘draws’ with lichens, crafts mosaic with fungi, and she also applies embroidery on fibre. The fungi originate from habitats from all over the world, obtained from dry collections or during her forays as a mountaineer, in collaboration with bio-scientists.
Her work has been subject of an MA thesis entitled Weaving Connections through Mycelium and Lace: Ecofeminist Reflections in Sylvia Plath’s Poetry and Kristina Zimbakova’s Visual Art, defended at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland (2026). She was the recipient of the City of Strumica Annual Medal Award for Outstanding Achievement in Arts (2025). Prestigious grants received include those from the UNDP Office in Macedonia, and the International Mushroom Dye Institute from the USA.

The large-scale wall installation Kontaktzonen, created specifically for the historic Orangerie, is composed of handmade cardboard, self-produced bioplastic, and hybrid fragments. Melanie Windl brings synthetic and organic materials into dense formations of plant-like structures, stone-like slabs, and flesh-colored elements in which material boundaries begin to dissolve.
Fragility appears here as a lasting condition, adaptation as an ongoing process. Permanence becomes a projection shaped by human longing.
Working between geology, ecology, and corporeality, Melanie Windl explores the fragile relationship between humans and nature. Using paper and bioplastic, her installations and assemblages investigate how this relationship shifts under the pressure of ecological crisis. Letters from Denmark have been used to make hundreds of paper daisies for a new artwork commemorating the end of the Danish national postal service.
At the end of 2025, PostNord stopped delivering letters and removed all the post boxes. Gillian Taylor invited people in Denmark to send one last letter. They wrote about memories of meaningful letters received in the past, and shared their thoughts on PostNord’s decision to end letter deliveries, reflecting on the effort and time taken to write a letter by hand.
Copies of the letters, their envelopes and contents have been used to create a hanging installation with hundreds of paper daisies. The daisy is the national flower of Denmark as well as a symbol of new beginnings and hope – offering an optimistic note, despite the sad end of the handwritten letter.
An accompanying soundscape has been specially composed by Laura Reid and uses a French horn, taking inspiration from the post horn which appeared on Denmark’s post boxes.

For the first time, a comprehensive retrospective is showcasing large parts of the complete works of Marburg artist Katharina N. Eitel, who passed away ten years ago at the age of 70. Katharina N. Eitel was a co-founding member of IAPMA.
During her more than forty years as an artist, Katharina Natalie Eitel gained public recognition with her highly acclaimed large-scale paper installations from the ‘zeithaut’series in museums, a church and other exhibition venues, but she rarely exhibited individual paintings or drawings, her objects and experimental paper art.
On display will be a selection of her costumes created in London,
large-format sketchbooks, handmade papers with drawings and paintings, paper artworks, marbled pictures, photographs and the results of her artistic exploration of central themes such as dialogue, vessels, landscape, the past and the body.

„zROZUMieć papier” – dialogue of matter, thoughts and emotions. Report from the vernissage of the exhibition by Agnieszka Andruszkiewicz
With the start of the new year, the Museum of Papermaking in Duszniki-Zdrój opened a temporary exhibition entitled ‘zROZUMieć papier’ (Understanding Paper). It presents the work of Agnieszka Andruszkiewicz, an artist and designer who percieves paper not only as a material, but also as a full-fledged partner in the creative process. The event attracted numerous guests and officially opened an exhibition devoted to reflections on the significance of paper in contemporary art.
The exhibition presents spatial objects made of corrugated cardboard, subtle works made of tobacco tissue paper, and works created by the use of handmade paper. The diversity of materials and forms allows us to appreciate the richness of paper's properties - from its softness and transparency to its structural rigidity and geometric precision. The exhibition presents paper as an ambiguous material, susceptible to transformation and capable of generating new meanings.
Agnieszka Andruszkiewicz, a graduate of the Institute of Papermaking and Printing at the University of Technology Łódź and holds a PhD degree of Design Arts at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. She consistently explores the possibilities of paper, using handmade, unbleached and paraffin-coated paper as well as tissue paper, tobacco paper, cardboard and corrugated cardboard. As the artist emphasises, every paper product and semi-finished product in her hands generates new creative qualities, and the process of creating her works is based on a dialogue with the selected type of paper, finally leading to the discovery of its hidden potential.
The exhibition ‘zROZUMieć papier’ (Understanding Paper) also encourages reflection on the very essence of paper - a material that is light, thin and fragile, yet indispensable in the process of recording thoughts, preserving memory and transmitting values. In fact, paper only begins to fully exist in relation with human beings: it is through paper that an idea leaves the mind and becomes reality. Although it is easy to destroy, it is to paper that we entrust what is most important.
The exhibition takes on special significance in the context of the place where it is presented. The Museum of Papermaking in Duszniki-Zdrój, located in a historic paper mill, has for years been a space for tradition, craftsmanship and contemporary artistic exploration.

Bas Linssen’s work explores memory and the longing for what once was. It is shaped by an ongoing dialogue with the natural world, as well as with found objects and materials that evoke a personal response. Paper serves almost always as the foundation of the work; its fragility and versatility closely align with the artist’s intent and sensibility.
Memories are distilled through drawings and paintings in which, much like a film, multiple fragments intertwine. It is often a single detail that triggers a revelation. In Marcel Proust’s famous madeleine scene, a simple gesture, such as biting into a cake after dipping it in tea, acts as a sensory amplifier capable of triggering
a whole universe of images and emotions.
Fragments unfolds in this liminal perceptual space, where what is ambiguous, discontinuous and partial continues to challenge our gaze and mind.
For the first time ever, SAC is opening its doors to the public with a two-person exhibition. Silvia Beltrami and Giuseppe Gallace, previous visitors to this space as part of previous group exhibitions, are now participating in a direct exchange, a visual dialogue in which their sensibilities interweave and reflect off of one another.
Within this dialogue, the fragment asserts itself as a form of possibility. The works of Beltrami and Gallace inhabit a hybrid territory where what’s real, though shattered, remains alive.
