JUST A REMINDER The IAPMA FACEBOOK GROUP PAGE is for members of IAPMA to share news and events about handmade paper and paper art with each other. It is also a place for discussions about paper art as it grows. The International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists (IAPMA) is the world leading organisation for paper artists. It was founded in 1986 in Düren, Germany, when paper as an art medium was far less well-known than it is today. While paper history and production are one facet of the Association's activities, the central focus is to promote paper and handmade paper as a contemporary artistic medium. The Association's main objective is to facilitate an international exchange of artistic ideas and share information about hand papermaking and paper art. IAPMA aims to provide the opportunity for members to work together, collaborate on artistic projects and exhibitions, share solutions to technical problems, explore different paper-related cultural backgrounds, and encourage new approaches to paper arts. To this end, each year one Bulletin and six newsletters are produced: the newsletters provide information about exhibitions, publications, projects and techniques involving paper; the Bulletins are professionally produced magazines with handmade paper covers and sample papers which feature individual artists, papermakers and their ideas. All members are invited to share information with other members through the newsletters and Bulletins. If you would like to join the IAPMA GROUP and you aren't a member you may want to think about joining. https://www.iapma.info/Application/Index

Kerber Verlag, Contemporary Art
ISBN:         978-3-7356-0133-9

28,00 Euro  (34,80 CHF)

The IAPMA menbers Bara Lehmann-Schulz and Kathrin Biffi-Frey have been using Paper for many years, to express and shape objects, images and installations. In 2005 – 2013 they created temporary installations in the Maggia river bed, in Swiss Tessin, using Paper and a few aids. This experimental work within a landscape shaped by glacial erosion used paper, light, and the weather, as well as standing and flowing water, and has characterised this project. It is these simultaneously transient and eternal, soft and hard, static and moving elements that make their work so fascinating.

The book is available via book stores or from the authors (according to prior agreement)

Bridge made from Paper

May 26, 2015 • 08:35 UTC

Of Interest

No glue. No cables. No steel reinforcements. The only thing keeping this bridge intact is, well, physics.
If you happened to be strolling across the Grisedale Valley—a ridiculously picturesque piece of land in Cumbria—over the past two weeks, you probably saw what looks like something out of a Monument Valley fever dream. A blindingly bright red bridge spanning a thin creek, made of nothing except thousands of sheets of paper. About 22,000 sheets, according to The Chronicle.
It’s called PaperBridge, and it’s the work of a UK artist named Steve Messam, who was commissioned by the area’s culture council to install it this spring.

Limp bindings from Tallinn

May 02, 2014 • 11:19 UTC

Market

The Tallinn City Archives have a voluminous collection of limp bindings in long-stitch, chain-stitch and tacketing. This technique was used mainly when binding simple bands for daily use, such as registers, accounts and notes but has also occurred in more important works. In the book, "Limp Bindings from Tallinn", eight of the bands are presented together with thorough technical descriptions. Hopefully, you will be inspired to develop new variations.
The book, in offset print, is printed in 600 copies on Multidesign Original white 150-gram paper and has a protective cover in Curious Touch, 250 grams. The design of the 48-page book is inspired by medieval writings and is illustrated by artist Jordi Arkö.
The book can be ordered by my mail monica@langwe.se I will then give instruction how to pay via PayPal.
The price of the book is $ 50 including postage, any import fees will be paid by the customer.
