#iapmamember #paper #paperart Eliana Anghinah Raicher
For those who may be interested in, or know something about the history of paper making in the UK, we recently received this from Gaz Pearson. If you have any further information feel free to add your comments to this post. 'We recently inherited a handwritten sample book describing how to make paper dated 1863 (please see pictures) it has approx 75 to 100 "recipes". Someone who I've been in touch with said you may be interested in the history of this book I've done some research on Ancestry and come up with this His father was a paper maker In Hayfield , Derbyshire. 1861 England census James was listed as a paper maker in Hayfield (which would tie in with the first listed mill) 1864 he married his wife in Lancashire 1871 England census He is listed as living in Barnsley aged 29 he is still a paper maker. (This may be the star mill in Barnsley) 1881 England census Still in Barnsley but now listed as paper works manager His son Charles Hadfield Thackstone is also listed as a paper finisher and listed as a Foreman. 1891 England census Still in Barnsley listed as a paper maker manager. 1893 electoral register He's still in Barnsley 1901 English census He moved to bury Lancashire and is listed as a paper mill manager Wasn't able to find any more information between 1901 - 1907 He then was living in Sowerby ,20 Soyland cottages, Rippondale - 1910 West Yorkshire English tax valuation He has ties with the Ryburndale paper mill company which relates to the cottage and also the last mill listed in his book' #papermakers #papermills #paper #papermakinghistory

WATER STONE PAPER
ACQUA PIETRA CARTA
Kathrin Biffi-Frey,(Switzerland), Bara Lehmann-Schulz (Germany)
Kerber Verlag, Contemporary Art
ISBN: 978-3-7356-0133-9
28,00 Euro (34,80 CHF)
The IAPMA menbers Bara Lehmann-Schulz and Kathrin Biffi-Frey have been using Paper for many years, to express and shape objects, images and installations. In 2005 – 2013 they created temporary installations in the Maggia river bed, in Swiss Tessin, using Paper and a few aids. This experimental work within a landscape shaped by glacial erosion used paper, light, and the weather, as well as standing and flowing water, and has characterised this project. It is these simultaneously transient and eternal, soft and hard, static and moving elements that make their work so fascinating.
The book is available via book stores or from the authors (according to prior agreement)

No glue. No cables. No steel reinforcements. The only thing keeping this bridge intact is, well, physics.
If you happened to be strolling across the Grisedale Valley—a ridiculously picturesque piece of land in Cumbria—over the past two weeks, you probably saw what looks like something out of a Monument Valley fever dream. A blindingly bright red bridge spanning a thin creek, made of nothing except thousands of sheets of paper. About 22,000 sheets, according to The Chronicle.
It’s called PaperBridge, and it’s the work of a UK artist named Steve Messam, who was commissioned by the area’s culture council to install it this spring.

The Tallinn City Archives have a voluminous collection of limp bindings in long-stitch, chain-stitch and tacketing. This technique was used mainly when binding simple bands for daily use, such as registers, accounts and notes but has also occurred in more important works. In the book, "Limp Bindings from Tallinn", eight of the bands are presented together with thorough technical descriptions. Hopefully, you will be inspired to develop new variations.
The book, in offset print, is printed in 600 copies on Multidesign Original white 150-gram paper and has a protective cover in Curious Touch, 250 grams. The design of the 48-page book is inspired by medieval writings and is illustrated by artist Jordi Arkö.
The book can be ordered by my mail monica@langwe.se I will then give instruction how to pay via PayPal.
The price of the book is $ 50 including postage, any import fees will be paid by the customer.
