👉UPCOMING 2 Day WORKSHOP - CA, United States👈 Creating Sculptural Handmade Paper Event Dates: July 15th - July 16th, 2023 Workshop Details: Join artist Michell Wilson at the beautiful Fibershed Learning Center on Black Mountain Ranch near Point Reyes Station, CA, for a 2-day workshop. The workshop will meet from 10 am to 4 pm each day. Flax from Chico Flax (https://chicoflax.com) will be used as the basis for handmade paper sculptures. Students will learn building methods for armatures and ways to wrap their armatures in handmade paper prepared in a way that is called "high shrinkage." In this method, paper pulp has been beaten for a long period of time to absorb a large amount of water, and dramatic transformations can occur when the form dries. Materials will be provided, but please feel free to bring interesting sticks, wire, basketry materials, thread, etc., that you may want to incorporate into your experiments. Papermaking is a wet process, please wear clothing and shoes that can get wet. Papermaking also involves some lifting and arm movements. Tuition Scholarships & Transportation/Childcare Stipends: Fibershed is offering two scholarships to most workshops; one scholarship if it’s a small class. In addition to scholarships for tuition, we are offering a limited number of stipends for transportation and/or childcare. If you would not otherwise be able to attend, and would like to be considered as a scholarship and/or stipend recipient, please answer a few brief questions on this Google Form. Responses will be reviewed by Learning Center staff and kept strictly confidential. Contact information Fibershed Learning Center learningcenter@fibershed.org To register for this class online: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/creating-sculptural-handmade-paper-with-michelle-wilson-tickets-588663046017 #iapmamember #IAPMA #paperworkshop #internationalworkshop #paperartists #paperart #creatingwithpaper #fibreart #sculpturalhandmadepaper

Featured IAPMA Member: Frances Vye Wilson @francesvyewilsonstudio IAPMA is excited to feature the beautiful work of artist member Francis Vye Wilson from the United States. “My sculpture is an extension of my belief in innate human strength and the restorative power of nature. Following on the tradition of narration and storytelling and the impact they have on our lives; I construct cultural and environmental themes using cambium fiber from the Asian Mulberry tree harvested in rural Laos. A previously unexplored natural medium, Cambium fiber has traits of resilience, adaptability, and a fragile appearance. I am fascinated by its natural cellular qualities and endless structural opportunities. In four series of works, I imbue the fiber with these qualities innate to man and nature.” Visit Frances’ website at http://www.francesvyewilson.com/ #featuredartist #iapmafeature #iapmamember #papersculpture #sculpture #iapma #internationalassociationofhandpapermakersandpaperartists #paperart #handpapermaking #artpromotion #artiststoexplore #connectingartists #showyourart #paperenthusiast #paperfascination

👉CURRENT EXHIBITION - Germany 👈 NAH DRAN - Close Up Event Dates: May 6th - June 11th, 2023 Artists: Tanja Major and other Artists Opening Hours: Saturday, Sunday and Holidays 2 pm - 5 pm Location: Weytterturm Straubing In d. Bürg 1 94315 Straubing More Information: The Gemeinschaft Bildender Künstler Straubing presents a thematic exhibition of its members entitled "Nah Dran" in the Weytterturm beginning May 6, 2023. "Close at hand" is about the elementary question of what moves a person in his or her life. Looking, seeing, contemplating, experiencing becomes more intense, more lasting, more interesting when a person approaches the living, the matter and lets the emotion approach him. Tanja Major with "Mycobütten." Here you can see the motif "Ascomycota," between two acrylic plates that resemble an eyepiece. This is what tubular fungi can look like under a microscope. They form tubes and in them are the spores for further sexual reproduction. The spores are shot out of the tubes when they mature. The Ascomycota (ascomycetes, tubular fungi) form a separate division in the kingdom of fungi. These include popular edible mushrooms such as truffles, morels and many more. The handmade mushroom paper works show new possibilities of paper production, they consist of almost 100% mushrooms and are therefore a "compostable or sustainable art" that can be returned to nature or the forest. 👉CURRENT EXHIBITION - Bulgaria 👈 Ethereal Event Dates: May 2nd - May 12th, 2023 Artist: Daniela Todorova Opening Hours: Monday to Friday 9 am – 5:30 pm Location: Gallery SREDETS Bulgarian Ministry of Culture 17 Aleksandar Stamboliyski Blvd. Sofia 1000 More Information: The exhibition 'Ethereal' is an artist project by Daniela Todorova, an established artist in the field of paper art and curator of Sofia Paper Art Fest. This project is part of the "Solo Exhibitions" section and has a special place in this year's festival program, marking the 60th anniversary of its curator and creator. The project is dedicated to a favorite topic for the artist – light and its multilayered dimensions. The exhibition is made up of paintings and paper panels united by installation works with light. Daniela Todorova has great merit for the presentation of this art, her preferred medium. The combination of paper and relief structures complements the sense of movement and lightness she wants to convey. “The main focus of my oeuvre, regardless of the medium, is interweaving spiritual messages into symbolic works. Philosophers define the Ether (quintessence) as the highest layer of air. This is almost invisible but very powerful energy has always been the body of research in the works I create. It is the fifth element associated with the divine. My spiritual journeys into the unknown invisible world and the encounter with that pure and gentle substance, the Ether, are part of my visions and searches in art. The messages I send are part of meditative states of contemplation and penetrating behind the veil of the visible in touch with the light. Symbolism and purity are my credos, expressed through eternal silent white, crystalline structures and shimmering matter."
