We are very excited to announce the winner of the $500 𝗖𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗩𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 for 2022: 𝗔𝗶𝗱𝗲é 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗱 for 𝘌𝘯𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 #𝟸. 🌟 👏 🌟 Thank you to everyone who voted! The exhibition at the Devonport Regional Gallery been extremely well attended and there were many votes to count. To choose just one work was an extremely difficult decision for most visitors 😰 This is the second Paper on Skin award for Aideé this year. 𝘌𝘯𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 #𝟸 also won the Awagami Paper Award in Recognition of the use of Handmade Paper – an award which celebrates the use of handmade, artisanal and/or non-commercial paper. 𝘌𝘯𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 #𝟸 is truly a globe-spanning work - created by French artist Aïdée Bernard whist she was undertaking a residency Costa Rica earlier this year. It is an ethereal and entrancing piece… no wonder it captured the hearts of voters. 💕 Aïdée is a rare woman who intimately mingles with nature, earth, water. Nature - with its variety and its creativity - offers her wild plants that she gathers and cooks for fibre extraction and thus makes her paper on which she writes words, words from others or her own. Whilst in Costa Rica, Aïdée used tropical plants which she did not know, experimenting with different varieties to find those from which she could extract cellulose fibres. The dress is made of vegetable fibres of babananier, cacao, cabuya and other fibres of the jungle. Thank you Karen and Linda from Cocoon Designs who sponsored this award. Paper on Skin is presented in partnership with the Devonport City Council and is assisted by Arts Tasmania. UPCOMING WORKSHOP Guy Lougashi - Cocoon - The Sewing Machine Lab and Contemporary Embroidery Workshop (Germany) Event Dates The workshop takes place from August 11, 2022 until August 25, 2022. Workshop Details August 11, 18, 25, 2022 10 am - 2 pm Workshop’s topics: Free motion embroidery on a variety of materials and mixed media. Multi-layered and three-dimensional embroidered standalone objects. Creating fabrics from different materials - creating alternative fabrics from residual materials, organic materials or various fibers. Processing different materials on a sewing machine: punching, soldering paper, paper felting, and alternative printing techniques. The humble sewing machine is considered by many a mere tool used in the craft of sewing. In fact, it offers artistic freedom and expression in the creation process. In this workshop we will explore the many possibilities in using the sewing machine as a multidisciplinary tool. We will delve into free, machine, and floating embroidery on a multitude of materials, making multi-dimensional images and textures in a size of your choosing. Finally, we will solidify the materials and make assemblage of your creations. The workshop is intended for participants familiar with the use and control of a sewing machine, beginners are welcome. The classes are based on a theoretical study of different techniques and demonstrations of how to make them, therefore, time is set aside in the workshop to practice the techniques and various experiments in materials. The participants may choose to come with their sewing machine to the workshop or make all the preparatory work at the workshop and leave the execution as homework. Participation in the workshop involves homework between sessions and a preparatory conversation with Guy before the workshop begins. Visual artist Anne Vilsbøll's artistic practice is based on basic research into the hidden potentials of handmade paper as a modern artistic form of expression. She is internationally recognized as one of the pioneers who, since the early 1980s, has been reviving the old paper craft as a contemporary art form. #painting #abstractart #handmadepaper #papercraft #colorful #iapmamember

NEW EXHIBITION - "Paper Has a Memory" (Denmark) June 03, 2022 - July 23, 2022. Featuring IAPMA Member Anne Vilsboell Opening Hours Friday 2 pm - 6 pm Saturday 12 pm -4 pm Also by appointment Location Birthe Laursen Art Agency Store Strandstræde 1 3250 Gilleleje In "Paper Has a Memory", Vilsbøll explores the origins, history, and uses of paper. The material itself is the central locus of meaning, and it is brought into focus through various sculptures and objects that consider our symbiotic relationship with nature. The group of works entitled Containers of Life and Death, which consists of four urns made from seagrass, kozo, and manila hemp, illustrates the transience of human life, while at the same time evoking the all-encompassing system of nature, in which the new is inevitably born from that which once was. As humans, we are bound to each other and to nature, and our choices will always resonate through the ecosystems of which we are a part. The series comprising My Secret Garden investigates paper as a medium and a storyteller. The textured sheets convey narratives embedded within the very fibers and structures of the paper - organic stories about nature, made by nature. Throughout her four-decade art practice, Anne Vilsbøll has investigated the qualities and capabilities of paper as a material in both painting and sculpture. She has studied many different papermaking traditions around the world, which in turn suffuse the formal language of her compositions and her thematic considerations. The Paper Academy in Gilleleje serves as Anne Vilsbøll’s studio, where she creates commissioned works and experiments with new practical applications and aesthetic possibilities of bio-based pulp. Additionally, The Paper Academy operates as a space for exhibitions, talks, and art residencies centered around facilitating and inspiring potential new approaches to paper that challenge our accepted conventions. #iapmamember #paperhasamemory #paperhistory #paperart #paperartist #paperacademy #kozo #abaca #seagrass #manilahemp

28,00 Euro (34,80 CHF)
The IAPMA menbers Bara Lehmann-Schulz and Kathrin Biffi-Frey have been using Paper for many years, to express and shape objects, images and installations. In 2005 – 2013 they created temporary installations in the Maggia river bed, in Swiss Tessin, using Paper and a few aids. This experimental work within a landscape shaped by glacial erosion used paper, light, and the weather, as well as standing and flowing water, and has characterised this project. It is these simultaneously transient and eternal, soft and hard, static and moving elements that make their work so fascinating.
The book is available via book stores or from the authors (according to prior agreement)

No glue. No cables. No steel reinforcements. The only thing keeping this bridge intact is, well, physics.
If you happened to be strolling across the Grisedale Valley—a ridiculously picturesque piece of land in Cumbria—over the past two weeks, you probably saw what looks like something out of a Monument Valley fever dream. A blindingly bright red bridge spanning a thin creek, made of nothing except thousands of sheets of paper. About 22,000 sheets, according to The Chronicle.
It’s called PaperBridge, and it’s the work of a UK artist named Steve Messam, who was commissioned by the area’s culture council to install it this spring.

The Tallinn City Archives have a voluminous collection of limp bindings in long-stitch, chain-stitch and tacketing. This technique was used mainly when binding simple bands for daily use, such as registers, accounts and notes but has also occurred in more important works. In the book, "Limp Bindings from Tallinn", eight of the bands are presented together with thorough technical descriptions. Hopefully, you will be inspired to develop new variations.
The book, in offset print, is printed in 600 copies on Multidesign Original white 150-gram paper and has a protective cover in Curious Touch, 250 grams. The design of the 48-page book is inspired by medieval writings and is illustrated by artist Jordi Arkö.
The book can be ordered by my mail monica@langwe.se I will then give instruction how to pay via PayPal.
The price of the book is $ 50 including postage, any import fees will be paid by the customer.
