Art Centre Silkeborg Bad is a contemporary art center located in Silkeborg, Denmark, set within a beautifully renovated former health resort that originally opened in 1883. Nestled by Lake Ørnsø and surrounded by forest, the center offers a unique blend of art, history, and nature. It features rotating exhibitions of contemporary Danish and international art, utilizing both its distinctive indoor galleries and an expansive outdoor sculpture park. The site’s rich history as a spa bath is still evident in its atmospheric buildings and scenic grounds, making it a popular destination for art lovers seeking immersive experiences in a tranquil, natural setting.
Silkeborg, home to the Art Centre, was established in the 19th century as a hub for paper production—a legacy that remains central to the town’s identity, even though paper manufacturing ceased in 2000. Today, papermaking lives on as a museum exhibit, while a nearby museum focuses on cardboard production. Historically, Silkeborg’s rivers and lakes made it an ideal location for the paper industry, providing both waterpower and transportation.
