Kanako Enokida, aka Kiki (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist born in Japan and now based in Meanjin (Brisbane). She preliminarily works with installations, papermaking, and performance. Her artworks fuse traces of her body, natural fibres and dyes to create fragile and intimate encounters for the viewers. Her creativity is driven by her passion to challeng the power dynamics of narratives, and to give voices back to the silenced.  She takes inspiration from her personal experience of being an “Asian woman” in this othering society, her battle for survival from medical conditions, and violence.

Guided by an aleatoric approach that harmonises with materials and the environment, she embraces the agency of her subjects in a creative process,

She sees her creative process as performative, for it allows her to explore inter-relational connection between nature, people, and place.
