Maria Liz Aquino
I was born in Asunción, Paraguay, where I lived until the age of 19. My life as traveler started upon living in different countries such as Germany, The United States, Switzerland and since 2018 in Japan.
I began to make Collages works with Washi, the traditional Japanese paper, already when I was living in Switzerland. I never thought one day I would live in Japan, the country where Washi comes from. In that time, I didn’t know much about this wonderful material. Washi paper is fascinating because it is at the same time very resistant and fine. The colors are great, and they have different textures, which help me to create my compositions with harmony and creativity. I combine the papers with acrylic colors, old Japanese writings and papyrus sheets on handmade paper.
