Paper is made in the historic paper mill in Homburg am Main. As a fifth-generation papermaker, Johannes Follmer now works in a very traditional way again. Genuine handmade papers come out of his small manufactory. - Sheet for sheet a unique specimen. The basic materials are cotton, flax, hemp, pulp and clean water (the source of the Bischbach is only a few hundred meters away). The act of creation requires and a steady hand with a lot of tact. In addition to the individual personality of the four-sided deckle edge and the fine-rough feel of the surface, the quality features of handmade papers include Dutch grinding, neutral sizing, lightfast pigment dyeing and air drying. The papers from the Homburger Papiermanufaktur thus comply with DIN 6730. They are rare witnesses of a time when paper as a cultural medium was reserved for only a few. Today, they are appreciated by sensitive individualists who are looking for lively partners for their thoughts and ideas.
The Homburg Paper Mill of Johannes Follmer is integrated into the Museum Papiermühle Homburg. The lovingly restored industrial museum, where paper was produced from 1807 to 1975, today provides insight into traditional and early industrial production methods and the working lives of papermakers.
Exhibitions with members of the IAPMA were held in the paper mill rooms. 2016 "Paper self-sufficient" (for the 30th anniversary) and 2018 "Paper unARTig".
