Jacqueline Mallegni | Paper Rain Studio
My journey with papermaking began with kozo fiber in 1989. During these years my work with paper and sculpture has varied from light fixtures to stone carving to ethereal mixed-media sculpture.
Making and the merging of art and life guides me to form a relationship with materials that capture my imagination. My work attempts to translate the inspiration that emerges from living alongside wild landscapes integrating concepts of the ethereal journey, motherhood, vacancy, loss, renewal and how emotional responses can evoke beauty.
The materials I converse with include rattan, handmade paper made with Broussonetia Payrifera (mulberry), Daphne sikokiana (gampi), and Edgeworthia chrysantha (mitsumata), cast flax and cellulose-based roving. Sometimes the work is embellished with mono-prints or infused with indigo, sumi ink, and handmade plant-based inks and stains.
