David Browne is an artist and paper maker working in Ditchling, East Sussex, U.K. and Palombara Sabina, Lazio, Italy.
David produces olive leaf paper, some of which is cast onto the side of the house or onto prepared metal sheets where the controlled areas of the rusty surface react with the olive leaf pulp. Some works are developed further with applied media, such as carborundum, stone dust, and natural pigments.
The olive leaf works reflect my recurring obsession with repetition and exploration of the tension between the organic and geometric. Other underlying themes include the fragility of the eco system with the increasing urbanisation of the landscape in this part of Lazio, as well as exploring, through abstraction, the rich layers of history that can be found in the surrounding buildings and landscape from the Etruscan, Roman and Renaissance to the more modernist interventions of the twentieth century
